Do three or more qualifying upgrades within two years of enrolling, and Xcel adds 25% of each one's standard rebate. The bonus is paid once the third upgrade is done.
The steps
- Have a Home Energy Squad Plus visit, or a blower door or infrared audit from a participating contractor.
- Enroll at xcelenergy.com/WholeHomeEfficiency before any upgrade starts. A CLEAResult energy advisor contacts you.
- Hire contractors on Xcel's Whole Home Efficiency list. Only they have the rebate application.
- Each contractor files its rebate. Checks arrive 8 to 10 weeks after Xcel gets the paperwork.
Houses, duplexes and townhomes of four units or less qualify.
What counts toward three
| Upgrade | Standard rebate |
|---|---|
| Air sealing, 20% less leakage | 30% of the cost, up to $400 |
| Wall insulation, empty walls to R-13 | 30% of the cost, up to $350 |
| Attic insulation to R-60 | Per square foot, by R-value added |
| Cold-climate heat pump, ducted | $750 per heating ton |
| Ductless heat pump heating half the home or more | $750 per heating ton |
| Heat pump water heater | $750 |
| 95% gas furnace replacing a non-condensing one | $225 |
A one-room ductless heat pump ($500) and a smart thermostat don't count. A heat pump and gas furnace put in as one job count as one upgrade here.
Xcel insulation rebates and the gas bonus
Xcel's own bonus depends on your Xcel service and what heats the house.
- Air sealing and insulation: 1.5 times the standard rebate in a house heated by Xcel gas, so air sealing can reach $1,000. Heated by Xcel electricity: standard only. Heated by propane, wood or another fuel: small flat amounts, only with Xcel electric service and central AC.
- Heat pump: Xcel gas customers get the standard amount again, unless the house already has electric heat (baseboards or a heat pump).
- Heat pump water heater: with Xcel electric service, the standard amount again when it replaces gas or propane water heating, unless the house already has electric heat.
The 25% is figured on the standard rebate only. Xcel adds $600 more when insulation and air sealing are invoiced before the heat pump, within two years of each other.
Confirm with your energy advisor
- Amounts for work invoiced in 2027. These are 2026's, and Xcel uses the rules for the year the work is installed.
- Whether a furnace put in with the heat pump counts as a second upgrade.
- Whether an ENERGY STAR washer or dryer ($30 each on Xcel's sheet) counts as one of your three.
- Your amounts if the house has electric heat or burns propane.
