Xcel's home energy audit is the Home Energy Squad Plus visit, which CLEAResult runs for Xcel. It costs $100 for a limited time, normally $150.
Who can book it
- You're an Xcel residential customer in Colorado, gas or electric.
- The home has its own Xcel account and is a house or part of a building with four or fewer units.
- Renters can book with the landlord's approval.
Book at xcelenergycores.clearesult.com or 303-446-7910, option 1. Xcel says to allow up to 10 days for a date.
During the visit
It takes about three hours. The technician:
- inspects the outside of the house, the insulation and the mechanical equipment
- runs a blower door test, a fan in an outside door that measures how much air the house leaks
- uses an infrared camera to find air leaks and gaps in insulation
- runs a combustion safety test and a carbon monoxide check
- installs LED bulbs, weather-stripping on one outside door, showerheads and faucet aerators, plus a smart thermostat with AC Rewards if you have AC
Clear a path to the attic hatch, the furnace and the water heater before they arrive.
Afterward
You get a written report with findings and recommendations, and free help from CLEAResult's energy advisors. The report opens Xcel's Whole Home Efficiency bonus.
An independent audit instead
A blower door or infrared audit from one of Xcel's participating audit contractors also qualifies. You pay the auditor, then Xcel pays back 60% of the price, up to $160 with a blower door and $200 with infrared. The infrared rebate needs Xcel gas service or Xcel electric heat.
